Butyl Glycol

Butyl glycol is an organic solvent with a boiling point of 171-172°C. It is a clear, colorless liquid that is miscible in water and soluble in most organic solvents which smell like ether. Butyl glycol belongs to the family of primary alcohols. These are compounds comprising the primary alcohol functional group, with the general structure RCOH (R=alkyl, aryl). It is a relatively non-volatile, inexpensive solvent with modest surfactant properties. Butyl glycol has many names including 2-butoxyethanol, ethylene glycol, monobutyl ether, ethylene glycol butyl ether, ethylene glycol, n-butyl ether, butyl cellosolve, and butyl Toxicol.
