It is mainly used in Detergent Industry acting as a water softener, and competes with the magnesium and calcium ions in hard water, preventing them from combining with the detergent used. In addition, it also helps to remove grease and wine stains. It is also used in the Textile industry during scouring, bleaching, and dyeing. Its usage also involves Pulp & Paper Industry for controlling the pH in the pulping process, neutralizing the effluent streams, and processing waste paper
